I wanted a runner to Droknar's, and I saw some guy advertising for 300g. I thought he had lots of money and was just being nice. I failed to notice he was level 16 until we were already out of beacons perch. After sprinting past the first couple of monsters he was stopped and almost instantly killed by the worms. I imagine this was embarrassing for him, it was hard for me to watch. He respawned and kept saying things like "i should have brought balanced stance" before finally saying "Hahahahahahah (laugh emote) you got scammed you stupid bitches!" Then he changed his mind and said i need to go get another skill. Of course, he mapped back, and i never saw him again.

Another noob story...

I joined a PUG for UW. When we actually enter in, I notice that half the team is in the same guild. Two warriors, a ranger, and a necro. Plus two random monks, a mesmer (I think), and me as another warrior. I'm thinking at least a decent team.

Nope. One of their warriors rushes in before traps are set and dies in 5 seconds against an Aatxe. The other dies not so fast, but pretty quickly with two monks on him. I'm thinking WTF while fighting off Aatxes by myself. After the second battle with Aatxes, in which the first warrior rushes without traps and dies again, I ask him, "Do you have any stances?" He replies that he has "warrior's endurance...and 6 attack skills". He proceeds to list some of them, but I'm too busy laughing to pay attention. After we manage to clear the Aatxes and he has 60 DP already, I ask everyone to head back to start to start the quest.

Not all the casters are down the stairs when the genius W/Mo decides to take the quest. Darknesses suck the casters' energy, someone aggroes them all, we eventually win. I ask him why the hell he got the quest. He laughs, saying that he paid for the trip, his whole guild mocks me for some reason, so I decide to shut up at that point and have my free laughs.

It was the worst UW trip I've seen. The warrior dies about every 5 seconds, two of his guildies can't find their way from the first Reaper back to start to get the quest, and after the mesmer leaves when we finish all the easy quests, the guild decides to rush the Coldfires, all 20 or so of them. I just sigh and suicide.

Needless to say, I won't ever work with anyone from their guild again.

Also, some poor W/Mo 13 got robbed of all his money at Bergen Hot Springs because he kept trying to get run to ToA, but everyone demanded payment up front and then failed. I took him cuz I was taking a guildmate anyway. I made the trip easily, and he offered all the money he had, which amounted to about 160g. I politely declined, I really felt sorry that he lost so much money on runs anyway. It's kinda sad, really; I've made that run twice for others and done it perfectly each time, yet others don't know what they're doing. I might go to Hot Springs just for that sometime.

My n00b experience. I was going from the oasis at the start of the desert, and gathered up all the people I could, and then left. Right out the gate our party was crashed because several members were trying to figure out how to use the "Teleporter" that they kept getting resurrected at. They called me a n00b because I didn't know how to work the "Resurrection Altar" that they had mistaken, even though we appeared there when we died. I left and got through it easy to heros audience and augury rock right away. That's it.

Here's a more recent n00b story from me.

I had a few Max Dmg bows in my storage, so I decided to pedal my wares in Ascalon City (I hate trading in LA).

A level 8 R/Mo approaches me and asks to have a look at my bows, so I put a few of my bows up in the trade window. All max dmg (15-28). He takes a look and closes the trade window almost immediately. I asked what the problem was, and he said that his bow has higher damage. What?? Higher than max damage? That's like uber-max damage. I say to him "Tell you what, show me your bow, and if the dmg is higher than any of the bows I show you, I will give you 2k". No reply. I realise I'm just wasting my time, and try out another district.

Soon as I get into the district, I repeat my pitch on the trade channel, and guess what....my first whisper is from the same guy! The conversation goes like this:

Me: WTS Good Max Dmg bows for very low prices. Inventory clearout.
N00b: Can I have a look please?
Me: I'll give you a bow if you show me the bow that you said has higher dmg
N00b: Oh, you again. fk off

After calming the guy down, I realise what the problem was. He had a good dmg bow (14-26), but didn't want to buy another. I said "That's fair enough, but you could have just said "No Thx". His reply was "Stop your whingeing!". Well, I wish him luck wherever he is right now, but with an attitude like that, he's probably stuck at the ruins of Surmia without a group to join.

everyone has some great stories, ive read this entire thread top to bottom and havent stopped laughing since.

i only have one kinda noobish story..

my friend/guild co founder was getting my newly made w/mo from acadamy to LA. he runs me from acadamy to yaks no prob, and we figure hey, since we will be fighting some of the way why not grab a few people to help? so we grab a few people dont remember what or who except for one monk. i was a w/mo, my friend was a w/mo, we had THE monk, and 3 others to fill out the group.

keep in mind that im level 5 or 6 at the time, we get out of yaks doing fine, the monks healing everyone fine, we get to the next area a few of us die if i remember correctly then all the sudden the monk flips out at me. hes like gawd you stupid n00b go and kill stuff quit standing in the back not doing anything!!!! i politely reply, im only level 5(6 i dont remember) i said i cant do much to these guys, and even if i try its just gonna be a burden on you trying to heal me. im healing my friend (the level 20 w/mo) with mending and healing breeze just so he doesnt have any close enoucnters and so the real monk can heal the others. he replies OMFUG!!!! you stupid n0obz im not healing you anymore! so i keep trying to tell him his efforts to make me mad and anoy me arent doing any good because im not actually taking much damage, enough to be healed for anyways. we finally get to beacons perch and he lets out a string of profanities and noobs and leaves the group.

not a super funny story, but funny at the time.

I can understand people charging for the Droknar's Run. It's hard as hell. I don't see why people charge for ToA runs or Maguuma Stade runs. I'm currently stuck in heal mode until I get enough refund points, so I was changing my secondary and going back and forth to Maguuma to buy skills. When I was there, this dude was getting 1k from people for running them there from Henge of Denravi If you're ever tempted to pay for that run, avoid it, because that's your noob moment. Anyone can fight there with the henchmen until the final bridge, and then the new "improved" AI gets them stuck and you run the rest of the way, or if you have mending 2 or 3+ and sprint you can run it alone.

Edge Martinez...you've reminded me of another story. This one is the flipside though...

Me and my guild were all progressing through the game at roughly the same time, and we'd all pretty much reached Bergen Hotsprings. We decide to give the Villany of Galrath quest a go and we start recruiting for other players to join in.

Our recruit shout is something that we're proud of. We're a friendly lot, and not adverse to a bit of banter, and we reflect that in our callouts for additional party members.

We land a Lvl 20 W/Mo, decked out in Fissure armour, who said he'll join. Great! We're all Lvl 16/18 by then except for our own W/Mo (Who is a very decent team player). We make the usual introductions and head off to ToA to get to a better outpost and recruit 2 more.

All of a sudden, as soon as we leave Bergen Hot Springs, the W/Mo starts going on about how his armour makes him invincible. Then he starts slagging off our guild "GAS? What does that stand for? Gay Ass Suckers?", so I retort "Well, what does your guild acronym FR stand for? fcuking Retard?" (no comeback)

Anyway, we're heading off west, and as everyone will know, there's a large mob of undead just before the portal. Our group are pretty good at dealing with this mob, but our recruited W/Mo just rushes in, aggroes EVERYONE, and starts making comments like "Ha! These monsters can't even scratch me! This armour is teh 5hitz0r!". The rest of us, not being so stupid, hang back to see this guy in action. About 30 seconds later, the ineviatble happens and he dies. "Shit! I forgot to bring Mending. Rez me u chickenshits". Well, lets see...he managed to kill 2 undead, and there are about 20 still swarming around his body. We conclude that the best way now is to run for the portal, which we all make with ease.

Somehow or other, despite this constant aggroing and abuse, we make it through the cursed lands, and the haranguing still hasn't stopped. "How cum u r staying far behind and leaving me to deal with these monsters on my own?" - Well, because the rest of the team is a mix of rangers, elementalists and monks, and while he was taking out whatever monster he wanted, we were following the called target. This guy must have blinkers on!!

Finally, we cross to Black Curtain. Home stretch, then we can dump this chump and get some real players!! Anyone will tell you, best way of staying alive in the first part of Black Curtain is to take on each patrol of Necrid horsemen seperately, and to draw them in, just in case the other patrols ambush you. Do you think this guy knew? No way. He rushed a damned cleric, got both sets of patrols aggroed, and ran south to the bridge when his health dropped to about 10. I'm guessing what happened next was that he aggroed the phantoms or the 3rd Necrid Patrol, because as his health bar started to build up, it blinked out. "REZ ME U GIMPS!!!!". We, in the meantime, were a little busy dealing with the other 2 sets of patrols and phantoms that he aggroed in the first place. Somehow or other, 2 of us managed to survive, and our own W/Mo healed up everybody...except for our deluded W/Mo who had bravely run away, and was now cursing us for not coming for him (Because he'd run so far out, we couldn't even find him! Honest, guv!). His final thought on the matter was "U fcukin n00bs u dont know how to paly teh gameOMFGLOLhope u die!" before leaving the team.

We made it to ToA, got a good team, and completed Villany of Galrath. :-)

Well my good friend and I quit our guild and joined this other guild where the Leader was pretty much begging us to join. He would jump in and bring his guildmates to help us on missions. So finally my friend and I joined his guild since our guild was pretty much just the two of us anyways. The Leader of the new guild really needed more Monks...and that ment US.

That being said....my friend and I are decent PvE Monks. We play together with TS and coordinate our Monk-ness. We definetly do not think we are the best by no means...but we can hold our own.

Now that I joined this guild they of course wanted me and my friend to help in GvG battles.
What a different game all together. Both times they asked me to help was late at night. I am a 4am guy. I have to get up early for work. So being that I was real tired to begin with I knew I wasn't going to be that sharp at playing my Monk. My friend is on vacation this week so he hasn't done any GvG yet. I really could have used his help. *sigh* The short of it we got WAXED. We won the first battle and lost the next two. I do not know the terrain, where everyone is going, and so on. I am sure I could have brought different skills. The enemy team totally KEYED in on ME. I was dead most of the time.

I can really see the need for a Training yard in the Guild Hall. Just so we can practice skills/spells. When my friend gets back from vacation I will definetly have him and I work together with a Healing Bubble on each other with Healing Seed and so forth. I have been telling my new Guildmates that we ALL need to get Teamspeak going between us all. My friend has the server to use for free. I will ask my friend to set up a small website for our guild as well. So we can work more efficently together.

GvG + ME = n00b for sure....but give me time and I will understand and become "good" at this.

1 more for you....

Currently, my main character has beaten all the missions, but hasn't got all the bonuses. I decide to go back to some of the areas with my new-found skills, strategies and experience, and take on some of the bonuses that I missed out, one of which is Aurora Glade.

Everyone who's tried this mission knows the story. To beat the mission, get all 3 pedestals tuned. To beat the bonus, keep 2 alight, kill everybody, and lynch the demagogue, THEN light the 3rd pedestal. (You know what's coming, right?)

So, I've rallied a team, just before we head past the thorn gate, we take a breather, and assign roles, and one newb (soon to be n00b) says "Sorry. I haven't done this 1 yet. What do you have to do?". So 3 minutes are wasted while I explain the layout of the playing field, our goal, and what must happen in order for us to succeed in the bonus.

As he didn't know the bonus, I said to him "Just kill whatever you can, try to stay alive, and if you see any enemy with a crystal, kill him first!". "Oh. K!"

So we start. I've already told the team that I'll be trapping, so all they have to do is sit back and wait for the enemy to walk into them. As I run off, the n00b starts following me.

"What are you doing? I'm laying traps. Get back with the rest!", I say as I'm laying barbed trap.
"Oh. K!"

First wave. Pretty good. Our runner is doing his job, the traps work well, and 4 of our team have despatched the crystal runner and a few White Mantle Abbotts....the 5th member is following our runner.

"Where are you going?"
"I'm trying 2 kill the guy with the crystal".
"That's OUR runner!".
"Oh. K!"

2nd & 3rd wave, in spite of a massive onslaught, the team is very much alive, and the White Mantle are seeing heavy losses. We're going to beat the bonus. Our runner (a monk) stops and starts to rez a few of the fallen, then the cutscene floods in.

"WTF??! Who placed the last crystal in its spot?".
"I thought we werent going to make it so I put the 3rd crystal in."
"You IDIOT! We only had a few more left!!".
"Oh. K!"

Yeah, that key is the bane of my existence. It never fails to mess you up in a crucial moment! I have a pet name for this key that shouldn't be repeated in public forums!

BTW, does anyone know of a PC keyboard that comes without this key??? Or at least have it in a different location?

I have a particularly embarrassing one.
On Sunday, I took my little level 15 Mesmer cutey down from the ToA to Sanctum Cay.
Thanks to the 8 man party limit, it was fairly simple.
However, when I get there, I remember that the armour crafter outside Sanctum Cay has almost perfect armour for sale.
I checked it, and yes, it was 57AL, +15 while casting spells.
"Sweet", I think to myself, and promptly go off and start gathering the materials I needed.
As many of you are probably aware, materials for crafting armour were extortionately expensive, so I use up almost all of my limited resources crafting the necessary linen for the armour.
What happens?
I go back to the trader and buy the first item of armour.
But instead of buying each subsequent piece, I click the "Buy" button 4 times, wasting a load of materials in the process and leaving me with 4 pairs of boots >:E

This one time, I took my W/Mo out for a spin on the first mission, and ended up in a group with 3 monks. 2 of them wanted to change to smiting and attacking builds, OMG!!1eleven wtf n00bs. I tried to explain to them that a monk's job is healing, and I would do all the fighting cuz I was the fightar. It took liek 20 minutes but I finally convinced them to become healers.

So as soon as the mission starts, I run around and try to gather up as many enemies at possible so we can take them down all at once, and the st00pid monks are screaming "wait!" the whole time. What whinegers, would you like some cheese with that? I was all liek "a good monk can solo tons of mobs on his own, and there are 3 of you along with a l33t w4rrior, so stfu!" After we finally start fighting, I died like 5 times, what a bunch of carppy monks, couldn't even keep a **W/MO** alive!

Afterwards, they keep spamming "my energy is blah". Like, stfu! nobody cares what ur nrg is, so I go running off to finish the mission, and all of sudden all of them are like "fark this", and leave the mission. So it turns out it wasn't just a group of n00bs, but also griefers. Hope none of you ever has problems like this.

It took me ages to realise why GW kept being minimised, normally when I was in the middle of a big battle and trying to call targets. That little sucker has now been prised out of my keyboard and is blue-tacked to the top of my moniter.

About a week ago I created a w/e and I got him to post-searing and I transfered all my Iron ingots(abut 90) and a really good axe from my e/me. I did a couple of missions and a w/e wasn't really working out for me, so I deleted him without realizing I still had those items on him.

I re-did Villany of Galrath the other day to help a guild mate. We joined a PUG with one other level 20 player, a ranger/mesmer. (I am a N/E)

Anyway we had one level 18 W/Mo (not my guildmate) who thought he was totally awesome. He charged right into every mob we saw even when we were drawing on the map saying "NO not that group", "wrong way", etc. Then he'd get mad that no one would come and help him out.

He would never respond to us unless he asked us a question.

Once the real action started towards the end of the quest, he aggro'd the wrong mob and died. But he'd already aggro'd them to US. So we had to fight the mob off, and listen to his "OMFG REZ ME!!" "REZ!" "REZ ME!"

So we beat the mob (actually me and the other level 20 killed 90% of the mob) and gathered around his corpse and we told him: "We will only rez you if you promise to follow orders and not charge into combat"

He said "Ok, I'm sorry"

So we rezed him and he came right off the ground RUNNING into the next mob. He didn't even pause, just BOOM back into the same shit. Everyone, even the other noobs said OMG!

He died again. We killed the mob again. We didn't rez him. Walked right by. You've though we just killed his pet dog or something by the way he pleaded and cried.

So we cleared the remaining mobs and were preparing to get Galrath, and we had a streak of kindness. So we went back to him and said "Do you PROMISE to follow orders and NOT charge into combat?"

"yes, yes. I'm sorry. I didn't understand what you meant."

So we rezed him again. He didn't run and followed orders.... for about 3 minutes. Until he saw Galrath. He charged, he died. We didn't charge and didn't die.

He didn't get rezed this time. He literally died at the feet of the Boss to complete the quest. All of our boys and girls who followed orders got the 4000 exp points. Those who didn't......

NO QUEST FOR YOU!

3 monks can't keep one tank alive? Yep you ended up with a very bad bunch. I don't go into smiting. Combination of healing and protection. (Orison of healing, Divine boon, aegis, mend aliment, remove hex, heal party, restore life, and the rest is whatever best for the situation) If you need super healing then heal other. Still got some ways to go before she's set.
